A tuntaina (not “tutaina” as many people erroneously call it) is a percussion instrument which played the same role of a tambourine in traditional Christmas parties celebrated in Castilla (Spain) during the 15th century, and its name was used as the title for one of the most popular Christmas songs (“villancico” in Spanish) from Latin American folklore and (perhaps) THE MOST popular one in Colombia and Venezuela.

The version in this LP, of which (sadly) the original release year can’t be told with certainty thanks to the record company not putting that info anywhere in the album (most likely from the early sixties), is performed by the choir from the Venezuelan institute for blind people, with Zaida Ochoa as soloist. The album, “Alegre Navidad” (“Joyful Christmas”) is the most traditional Christmas LP ever released in Colombia, and the copy in the video is a reissue from the eighties.
