The West Side Story song “America” was the song chosen by singer, guitarist and actor Trinidad López III (best known as Trini López) to open his concerts at the PJ’s nightclub in West Hollywood during the early sixties. And it happened to be his debut song as a recording solo artist, since one of his shows at PJ’s was recorded and released in 1963 as his first album. Here you can hear “A-me-ri-ca” (as it appears on the album) from an original Colombian copy of the “Trini López at PJ’s” LP.

COVID-19 took the life of Trini López on August 11, 2020. This video is a humble homage to his memory. May he rest in peace.
