Santa Bárbara Superstar was an Argentinean vocal trio led by Buenos Aires-born singer Alejandra Aldao and supported by Panamanian singers Dino Murillo and Chino Galván. In
1976, Argentinean singer, songwriter and music agent Leonardo Schultz put lyrics to the expressive instrumental melody created by guitarist Carlos Santana for his tune “Samba Pa’ Ti”, and Santa Bárbara Superstar recorded it with Aldao singing the lyrics and scat-singing Santana’s final solo from the original recording. Translated to English, the lyrics go like this:

I’m the shadow of a sorrow
I’m the echo of a pain
Sad loneliness
that I have today
The memory that I loved you
And a strange desolation

I’m the shadow of a sorrow
I’m the echo of a pain
I want to forget
I want to find forgiveness
Have mercy on my heart
I implore you, oh my lord

I will erase the darkness
And I will hide my crying
The memory that I suffer
will become a song

I will come back to life
I will sing again, you’ll see
I will come back to life
I will sing again, you’ll see

(So, for those of you who think that the lyrics for “Samba Pa’ Ti” were first recorded by José Feliciano -in 1982-, you have been wrong all these years)
