I always prefer album versions. I’ve never been a fan of edits/extended versions, but this is perhaps the biggest exception to my rule. What I like of this slightly sped-up “special disco mix” made by the late Jim Burgess of the huge 1978 hit “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” by Rod Stewart is essentially the fact that the conga track recorded by Paulinho Da Costa is more prominent in this mix than on the album version. It blends perfectly with Carmine Appice’s drum set and Phil Chen’s bass, and this gives the song a bit more of a Latin flavor. Also, the exciting guitar “neigh” that kicks off the song is louder as well (from day one I’ve associated that rhythmic effect by the guitar heard throughout the song with a neigh). Plus it has a cowbell in the last part! (The only prescription to my fever).
