Primus is one of those few bands that started their official discography with a live album. “Suck On This” is Primus’ debut LP featuring excerpts from two concerts held at The Berkeley Square in Berkeley, California, on February 25 and March 5, 1989, and released on November of the same year. Thanks to the $3000 lent by bassist Les Claypool’s father, the band could record their performances on a TASCAM quarter-inch 8-track Portastudio and mix the resulting recordings onto a Hi-Fi VHS video cassette before pressing 1000 copies of the album, which were released on Claypool’s own record label Prawn Song Records. What you hear here is the first release of “Tommy The Cat”, two years before its official studio debut on “Sailing The Seas Of Cheese”.
