“In The Air Tonight” is Phil Collins’ debut solo single, released in 1981 as the lead single from his first solo album “Face Value”. It’s considered his signature song, and features (at 3:49) what fans have called “the magic break” and critics describe as “the sleekest, most melodramatic drum break in history”. In its May 2016 issue, British magazine Rhythm ranked this break at the 79th place in its “101 Greatest Drumming Momments” list, not to mention that the song was ranked at number 35 on VH1’s “100 Greatest Songs of the 80s” in 2006.
