From direct experience I can tell you that the original and most famous version of this song, performed by Rick Dees & His Cast Of Idiots, was never played through the radio in my country (or very marginally if it ever was). The smash hit version of this song in Colombia in late ’76 / early ’77 was this French-sung one by Canadian singer Paul Vincent. It was released on a compilation LP called “Pato Discotequero” (“Disco Duck”) on Epic Records, but here it is taken from an original 1976 Japanese single on the Victor label.
