“Hey Ya!” is a hit song produced and composed by rapper André 3000 (André Lauren Benjamin) and released in 2003 as one of the lead singles for the album “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” by the hip hop duo OutKast. I’m not a fan / follower of hip hop / rap music, but the mix of funk and rock (along with rap, of course) elements present in this song makes for a very cool tune in my book. The accompanying acoustic guitar along the entire song adds a nice and not so common touch in this kind of music. The meter change in the middle of each phrase is a cleverly used rhythmic idea that adds interest to the song, not to mention the unexpected harmonic twist at the end of each phrase (stated by the acoustic guitar). And the music video is really cool!
