Is there anybody out there who thinks there’s a better version of “(I Can’t get No) Satisfaction” than the original one by The Rolling Stones? Yes, and that person is none other than its creator, Keith Richards. Why? “I actually thought of that guitar line as a horn riff. The way Otis Redding ended up doing it is probably closer to my original conception for the song. It’s an obvious horn riff. And when this new Fuzz-Tone pedal arrived in the studio from the local dealership or something, I said, ‘Oh, this is good. It’s got a bit of sustain, so I can use it to sketch out the horn line'”. He got the idea from Martha and the Vandellas’ “Nowhere To Run”.

And added “At least Otis got it right. Our version was a demo for Otis”. According to Richards, the song was released in its unfinished form without their knowledge, while the band was on tour.

From Otis Redding’s 1965 album “Otis Blue / Otis Redding Sings Soul”. Mono reissue by Sundazed Music.
