This is one of the official recordings of the National Anthem of the Republic of Colombia, performed by the country’s national symphony orchestra. With music by Italian composer Oreste Sindici and lyrics by Rafael Núñez, four times president of Colombia, this composition was written in 1887 and officially adopted as national anthem in 1920. It has one chorus and eleven verses, but only the first one is commonly sung. It’s typically told at schools that Colombia’s anthem is the second most beautiful national anthem in the world after “La Marseillaise”, but we are never told when/where/who made such declaration ( :^ ).

This recording of Colombia’s national anthem is an instrumental version in E-flat major. It was also recorded in C major since it’s easier to sing for most people, but the E-flat major version is the one traditionally heard every day at 6:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. through every radio and TV station in the country that broadcasts 24/7, or at the beginning and end of their daily broadcasts for stations that don’t work full time (public law # 198 from 1995). Taken from an EP released in 1979 by Ministerio De Educación Nacional and Instituto Colombiano De Cultura (government entities), distributed for the most part at schools completely free of charge.
