1966’s “The Psychedelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor Elevators” is purported to be the first use of the word “psychedelic” on an album, referring to the music within. This is the debut album of American band The 13th Floor Elevators and “You’re Gonna Miss Me”, the band’s debut single and only hit, is considered a bona fide garage rock song and a classic of the counterculture era.

The 2020 reissue of the album includes two LPs with the original mono mix and a stereo remaster made in 2010, respectively. Here you can hear both mixes of “You’re Gonna Miss Me”. As always, both tracks were recorded with the same input level, and level matching wasn’t applied. I mention this because in this case the level difference is pretty evident, and I think level differences should be kept in a comparison. Plus, it’s nothing that cannot be corrected with the volume control.
