This achingly beautiful theme was composed by the great John Barry, who also had the role of music supervisor, in charge of choosing all pre-existing music that would be used in the movie. Barry also composed a few other themes of the film, as well.
The harmonica player on the “Midnight Cowboy” theme was the Belgian virtuoso Toots Thielemans.
