This is Led Zeppelin at the top of their game as a live band, recorded at Long Beach Arena on June 27, 1972, performing their hit song “Stairway To Heaven”. Part of the album “How The West Was Won”, originally released in 2003. Although this, in my opinion, is a way better document of Led Zeppelin live than “The Song Remains The Same”, it doesn’t have the same stature because of three reasons:

– It’s a historical recording, released 31 years after the event and 23 years after the band had ceased to exist.
– It’s not the soundtrack for a movie.
– It was released at the peak of the “loudness war” era, and the sound of the original release suffers because of that. Not terribly brickwalled, but it would have sounded way better for sure had it been released 20 years before.

This is the 2018 reissue of the album in the form of a 4-LP box set.
