Originally released in Italian by Umberto Tozzi in 1979, it was later translated to English by Johnathan King. A few years later, it would be released as a single by Laura Branigan. It became the highest charting single off the album “Branigan”, where it spent three weeks at #2. It reached that position on November 27th of 1982, where it was held out by “Truly” by Lionel Richie and “Mickey” by Toni Basil. Branigan’s version of Gloria set the record for most weeks a female spent on the Billboard Hot 100 with one song, with 36 weeks.
