Released as the lead single off of Lennon and Yoko Ono’s album “Double Fantasy”, this would be his first single in five years. It would become a hit for him, reaching the top ten. As it was climbing the charts, it was at #6 on the Hot 100 on December 6th of 1980. Two days later, Lennon was shot and killed, thus making sales of his single soar. It continued to climb the top ten, reaching #1 for five weeks, starting on December 27th and ending on January 24th of 1981. Billboard ranked it as the fourth-best single of 1981.
