“A Love Supreme” is a four-part suite written by John Coltrane and recorded by him with his quartet in one take on December 9, 1964. The entire piece is what makes up the album of the same name released the following month, which became one of the most important jazz albums in history. It’s considered Coltrane’s masterpiece and also spawned the “spiritual jazz” movement. The musicians that took part in this recording are John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on double bass and Elvin Jones on drums.
