“Jazz At The Pawnshop” is the condensed result of a two days recording made by recording engineer Gert Palmcrantz in December 1976, at the Stampen jazz club, Stockholm, Sweden.
In the 90’s, “Jazz At The Pawnshop” was regarded as an audiophile reference, on vinyl record and CD too.
In those days, on every audio show that counts, they would have to make a demonstration of their fancy equipments using this recording.
Some even claimed that this was the best jazz recording from the 20th century… a bit of an exaggeration perhaps, i don’t even know if it’s possible to come to such a conclusion, whatever the recording is.
Nonetheless, it’s a nice recording which is capable of giving us a glimpse of the sound and ambience of that small jazz club in that 1976 evening.
