Mr. Kipnis’ harpsichord, built for him in New York in 1961 by Rutkowski and Robinette, has the following disposition: Lower Manual-8′ leather (Peau de buffie) , 8′ quill, harp (buff) stop on both 8’s, .4′ quíll; Upper Manual-8′ quill; Manual coupler. In both sound and appearance it resembles the large standard French harpsichord of the late 18th century.

The America:n harpsichordist Igor Kipnis has appeared in
concerts throughout the United States and Canada. In 1967,
through a Martha Baird Rockefeller grant, he made his
first European tour; in 1968, his South American debut;
and, in 1969, his second tour of Europe, followed by his
first appearances in Israel. He has taught at Tanglewood,
hosted his own program over The New York Times radio
station, WQXR, and serves as a contributing editor and
record reviewer for Stereo Review magazine.
