(Time magazine), Igor Kipnis has performed
in recital and as soloist with or.
chestras throughout the United States and
Canada, Europe, South America, Israel,
and Australia. He has made 33 solo LP’s,
receiving Grammy Award nominations in
1964, 1971, and 1972; the Deutsche
Schallplatten prize in 1969; and the
Stereo Review “Records of the Year”
awards in 197 1, 1972, and 1975.
Mr. Kipnis hosted his own radio progr
·am “The Age of Baroque” for N ew
York City’s WQXR for three seasons. For
Oxford University Press he has edited a
music anthology A First Harpsichord
Book, and for Alfred Music he has prepared
a critical edition of The Sufferings
of the Queen of France, Op. 23, by Jan
Ladislav Dussek. Currently a contributing
editor for Stereo Review, Mr. Kipnis has
also written for The American Record
Guide, The New York Herald Tribune,
The N ew York Post, Musical Courier, Listen,
and Notes. He is the son of the former
Metropolitan ‘Opera bass Alexander
Kipnis, and a graduate of Harvard University.
Mr. Kipnis has lectured on baroque
performance practice at the Berkshire Music
Center (Tanglewood), the Westminster
Choir College Harpsichord Festival,
the Early Music Institute of Indianapolis,
and many other distinguished institutions
throughout the world.
