The main theme for the Quinn Martin Productions TV series “The Streets Of San Francisco”, starring Karl Malden and Michael Douglas, was written by composer Patrick “Pat” Williams and recorded by himself as the leader of his orchestra in 1972. Four years later, composer and arranger Henry Mancini recorded an album featuring his versions of popular TV cop shows at the time (including “The Streets Of San Francisco”), with the support of studio aces like Abraham Laboriel on electric bass, Lee Ritenour on electric guitar, Harvey Mason on drums and Artie Kane on keyboards (who recorded the Fender Rhodes electric piano solos in this piece). I’m not really a fan of cover versions, but this LP is an exception considering it was made by one of the greatest TV and movie music composers and arrangers of all time. The only fault of this LP is being just 25 minutes long.

From the 1976 album “The Cop Show Themes” by Henry Mancini. Original US pressing.
