(“MOI” stands for “Mothers Of Invention”. I had to abbreviate it because it made the title too long)

“Nine Types Of Industrial Pollution”, a.k.a. “400 Days Of The Year”, is an instrumental composition by Frank Zappa included as part of “Uncle Meat”, the soundtrack album for an eponymous never-completed movie. The experimental nature of this piece includes altering (raising) the pitch of the original recording by a not-so-subtle amount of six semitones (a tritone), which also results in an approximately 28.5% faster tempo (notice that only the guitar solo was sped-up. The backing track plays at real speed). Here you can hear both the officially released version and also the track played at the tempo and pitch it was actually recorded, thanks to the pitch / speed shift capabilities of the Numark TTXUSB turntable. No need to re-encode the video at a lower speed with the unnatural results it would have returned. It was re-recorded with the turntable spinning at 23.83 RPM for the “real life performance” version.

This tune is an acoustic guitar improvisation basically in Bb Dorian as heard on the album, but it was actually played in E Dorian. So, take this into account if you are a guitarist trying to play this piece.

Originally released in 1969, this copy of the “Uncle Meat” double LP is a 2013 release part of the excellent vinyl reissue campaign started in 2012 by the Zappa Family Trust.
