After the success of the film “Beverly Hills Cop” from just about a year prior, Murphy went into the recording studio to record his debut album “How Could It Be”, which would be produced by Rick James. The lead single, “Party All The Time”, was a success, reaching #2 for three weeks, starting on December 28th of 1985 and ending on January 11th of 1986. It was prevented from moving any further by Lionel Richie’s “Say You, Say Me”.
