This recording is a fusion of the musical works featured in the two videos immediately preceding this one. In 1973, American composer, arranger and bandleader Don Sebesky released “Giant Box”, a double LP set considered one of the most ambitious projects under Creed Taylor’s CTI label. The opening track “Firebird / Birds Of Fire” is a mashup of Igor Stravinsky’s “The Firebird” suite and Mahavishnu Orchestra’s “Birds Of Fire”, a John McLaughlin-penned jazz fusion composition released earlier the same year (1973). Billy Cobham is the drummer on both Mahavishnu Orchestra and Don Sebesky recordings.
