“Misirlou” is a folk song from the Eastern Mediterranean region, with origins in the Ottoman Empire. In 1962, surf guitar player Dick Dale rearranged the song as an instrumental rock guitar piece after a fan challenged him to play a song on only one string of his guitar. His version was first released as a single under the name “Miserlou”, and later re-recorded in extended form for inclusion on Dick Dale & His Del-Tones’ debut LP “Surfer’s Choice” with the name “Misirlou Twist”.

But generation Zs (and many millennials, for sure) know this tune primarily as the opening theme for the 1994 film “Pulp Fiction”, directed by Quentin Tarantino. Here’s “Misirlou” taken from the movie soundtrack LP, including the last part of the previous dialogue between Pumpkin (Tim Roth) and Honey Bunny (Amanda Plummer). Mono recording. 2008 European reissue.
