Released in 1981 as the title track from the movie of the same name, and sung by superstar Diana Ross and Lionel Richie. It was Richie’s first song as a solo artist (after being lead singer for The Commodores), and proved to be his and Diana Ross’ biggest record, peaking a #1 for nine consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song was ranked as the 2nd biggest song of 1981 by Billboard Magazine, losing to Kim Carnes’ “Betty Davis Eyes”.
