Billo’s Caracas Boys, led by Luis María “Billo” Frómeta, is one of the two major bands from Venezuela that adopted the big band format to perform tropical music. “Caraballeda” is a song dedicated to the coastal city of the same name in central north Venezuela where every June 24th the St. John The Baptist festivity is celebrated with, among other things, dancing music performed by groups of people beating a drum colloquially called “the St. John drum”. This instrument is prominently featured in this track.

From the 1974 album “Billo ’75”. Original Venezuelan pressing.
