“Too Much Heaven” is a song by the Bee Gees released as a single in 1978, and as part of their 15th album “Spirits Having Flown” the following year. This song is the band’s contribution to the “Music for UNICEF” fund, earning over $7 million in publishing royalties for the fund.

As recorded in the studio, it has 9 layers of three-part harmony vocal tracks for a total of 27 voices, 18 of them recorded by Barry Gibb alone (the other 9 recorded by the trio together). It also features Chicago’s horn section (Lee Loughnane, James Pankow and Walter Parazaider) in return for the Gibb brothers recording backup vocals on the song “Little Miss Lovin'” from Chicago’s 1978 album “Hot Streets” (although, according to the CD booklet on the 2003 reissue of “Hot Streets”, only Loughnane and Parazaider participated in the recording of “Too Much Heaven”, playing flugelhorn and flute respectively. But three-part harmony horn parts can be heard).

Original German pressing from 1979.
